Handline Kolsch

Our flagship. Traditional German ale originating from Cologne. Kolsch yeast is an ale yeast but it ferments at colder temperatures like a lager. Fermenting at lower temperatures prevents fruity ester flavors and allows for a clean fermentation profile. The grain bill includes traditional German malts that provide subtle bread and honey flavors. The beer is well-attenuated and dry for the style. The hops are American hops, but direct lineage of the traditional Kolsch hops. The hops add aromas akin to lemon and fresh cut grass. The beer is true to style and we get many compliments from Germans who visit the Cape. It pairs well with all foods and it is easy to have two! Suggest it to anyone who likes lighter beers like a lager or pilsner.

Charlene’s Dream Altbier

A traditional German amber ale and a new favorite to our lineup. Altbier originates from Dusseldorf and is also fermented with Kolsch yeast. Just like Kolsch, its flavor and aroma are more similar to a lager than an ale. We use a touch of de-husked roasted malt to add a toasted malt flavor. The de-husked malt limits the bitterness commonly found on roasted husks. The grain bill also features traditional German malts that add a rich complexity to the flavor. The hops used are a German variety that are very floral. The beer is dry for the style. Suggest to anyone who wants a darker malty beer or amber pale ale.

Stonehorse IPA

Our second most popular beer after Kolsch. There is relatively minimal malt flavor as the grain bill is very simple for this beer. We use a simple grain bill to highlight the Citra hops that are featured in this IPA. Citra hops are very oily and incredibly aromatic. The majority of the hops we add are post boil, so they do not add very much bitterness, but more aroma and flavor. The flavors the Citra hops give off are very similar to lime zest and white grapefruit. We ferment the beer out with an English ale yeast, which provides even more fruity flavor. The

beer is balanced and dry for the style. Suggest it to anyone that loves hoppy or citrusy beer.

WHITE SHARK WHEAT - AMERICAN WHEAT / 4.2 ABV

This beer is a classic American Wheat. Not as cloudy or fruity (think clove or banana) as its German cousin the Hefeweizen, this beer is a simple combination of American two-row, malted wheat and a hint of caramel malt. The combination of those grains and cascade hops give you a low bitter easy drinking wheat beer that has been a staple across our country for some time.

*Cascade Bittering and Aroma Hop

OUTERMOST IPA - INDIA PALE ALE / 6.3 ABV – 63 IBU

Quickly becoming the favored beer across America, this style has long been known for the amount of bittering hops used (originally as a natural preservative to ship from Great Britain to India) that give it a distinctive but delightful bitter taste. Enter the American craft brew scene adding more and more aroma and flavor to the mix and the style has become quite popular for its far reaching variations. We combine a mix of 4 different hops to give a distinct citrus nose on the front end through the flavor hops until you reach the bittering back end for the full flavor.

OKTOBERFEST - MÄRZEN / 5.5 ABV

To us, the Märzen lager is a quintessential autumnal hallmark. Our Oktoberfestbier is made with authentic Bavarian malts and the finest noble hops from the famed Hallertau region of Germany. Pouring a copper color with an off-white head, it tastes of freshly baked bread crust with a mild hint of bitterness and a delicate aroma of floral hops.
